About Me
My love of camping and hiking strongly influences my landscapes. Being in nature gives me a sense of peace, and painting these places allows me to reconnect with that feeling. Portraiture feels more personal and challenges me to capture not only someone’s physical features, but also a sense of their individuality and the emotions that can be seen on their face. My still lifes often contain less obvious meanings. An ordinary dining-table arrangement, basket of fruit, or pot of flowers can represent my daily routines, my perspective, and time spent with my family.
Through my work, I hope viewers pause to recognize the beauty and meaning within familiar things that might otherwise go unnoticed. I want my subjects to remind them of their own experiences—a family meal, a favorite place, or a meaningful trip.
As I grow as an artist, I hope to become more confident drawing people and animals freehand and to explore the capabilities of colored pencils. I am also curious about how art can connect with and influence other disciplines, and I hope to explore those relationships in my future work.
